Sandra and I cruised down from Beccles to Somerleyton late morning with our new crew member King, who we were ‘doggy sitting’ for Tim and Dee over the weekend. Twelve club boats were already there by the time we moored up at about 1pm, Chris and Pam came in soon after. The quay was full by the time John and Fay arrived on ‘Precious Time’ with Arthur and Yvonne so they rafted off ‘Tantalus IV’. After a cloudy cool day, the clouds broke up and we were treated to a pleasant sunny, warm late afternoon.

We made our way up to The Dukes Head where we met up with Bob and Norma, Sylvia, Graham and Mary, Ron and Joan and Richard and Jaki who came in their cars. Drinks were ordered, Quiz Teams were sorted and everyone was seated by about 7.15pm. Commodore Bob welcomed everyone and 37 of us then enjoyed an excellent fish ‘n chip supper which was promptly served.

I got the job as quiz master this year and the quiz, which was compiled by Bim and Jackie, got underway after the meal, the picture round having been looked at over dinner. The remaining four rounds consisting of TV and Films, Countries, General Knowledge and The Accumulator were read out. Cries of - What? Who? When? Can you read that one again? - rang out across the Garden Room and eventually scores were tallied and results read out, which were as follows:

Seamaster 4+1 – (47) Graham and Mary, Steve and Angela, Graham (Steves Brother)

Reedham Rebels – (47) Ray and Jo, Tony and Sue, Keith, Andy, Roger

Poseidon – (41) Ron and Joan, Sandra, John and Lin, Richard and Jaki.

Mud Skippers – (38) John and Rita, Terry and Marie

Bulk Heads – (34) Chris and Pam, Sylvia, Ray and Margaret

Norfolk ‘n Good – (32) Bob and Norma, John and Fay, Arthur and Yvonne

Bacchante – (9) Arthur and Barbara

Well done to joint winners, Seamaster 4+1 and Reedham Rebels who will share the Commodores Cup.

We all left the pub by 11pm after another enjoyable club evening. Thanks to Bim and Jackie for compiling the quiz and to all the staff at The Dukes Head.

Sunny weather greeted us again on Sunday morning as we went our separate ways.

Hope to see as many as possible at the last club event of this very successful year, the Laying Up Supper at The Hatfield Hotel on 17th October.
